29 long years later, the wait is over! Border 2 makes a fiery comeback of Sunny Deol in a mission that does not depend merely on sentiments but scales new heights of an action film.
First impression:
Border 2 is a fast, furious, can-be-entertaining second installment in the
Border saga. It is a tribute to J.P. Dutta's original yet a brave new step
towards ushering a new breed of warriors including Navy and Airforce, actors
and top the charts as a 'Tri-Service' war movie.
My Rating: 9/10

- Synopsis:
Border 2 is set amidst the backdrop of the Indo-Pak war of 1971. The film
centers on the Battle of Basantar and Lieutenant Colonel Fateh Singh Kaler
(Sunny Deol) commands a battalion On the Western front. This is story
becomes bigger and depicts the combined valor of the Indian Army, Air
force and the Navy that valiantly try and secure the borders of Jammu and
Punjab against a large enemy attack.
What Works: The Highlights
- The
Power of Sunny Deol: Sunny Deol is not just Lt. Col. Fateh Singh in
this film. He's the true spirit of an Indian soldier and he can still make
your hairs stand on end with his dialogues. Trust me, by 2026, No one will
do patriotic action better.
- Multi-Front
Warfare: While the earlier Border was largely a land-based story,
Border 2 also upsets the batting order by bringing in Diljit Dosanjh as
the Air Force pilot and Ahan Shetty as the Naval officer. The new age
"Tri-Service" action makes the movie more engaging.
- Cinematography
& Sound: The actual sound design, in the fight scenes, is bone
rattling. The new version of "Sandese Aate Hain" also called
"Ghar Kab Aaoge", is tastefully used, and resonates beautifully
without sounding like a jarring remix.
What Didn’t Work: The Drawbacks
- Lengthy
Runtime: The final hour exceeds 3 hours, which makes the second half
feel a little padded. There are several domestic flashbacks, which,
although emotionally powerful, could have been more concise to keep moving
the war forward.
- Heavy
CGI: The practical explosions (which work really well) are quite cool
but some of the air-to-air combat involving the Air Force is a little too
"PS2" in style, especially when compared to the almost
documentary-like quality of the on the ground combat.
Final Thoughts & Recommendation
Border 2 is a "Seetimaar" hit that works so well
because it makes its soldiers human first and heroes second. If you grew up a
fan of the 1997 original, you'll be so proud to see it continued.
"if you love a good, high-octane war story like Uri or
Gadar 2, this is the blockbuster you must see this year. It has to be
experienced on the big screen."
